Taste Buds: The Adventures of Cake and Broccoli
|
When Cake and Broccoli are unexpectedly rejected on their one and only Eating Day, they must learn to be good so the humans will eat them. But will these unlikely buds find the answer before they wilt and go stale? Or is the meaning of “good” more complicated than it first appears? In this interactive play for ages 5 to 9, each participant receives a “menu” to fill with drawings of their favorite dishes. By challenging harmful narratives classifying food as “good” or “bad,” Taste Buds prompts participants to reflect on the cultural, social, and nutritional value of food in their own lives.

Come On, Calm
adapted from the Book by Kelsey Brown
A short piece for young audiences that I wrote and directed for a directing class with Studio Acting Conservatory founder Joy Zinoman. This play is based on the picture book by accessibility expert Kelsey Brown. The book explores creative calming techniques for children who become overstimulated. For this piece, I collaborated with actor and illustrator Zé Lorber to tell a story about a neurodivergent student experiencing virtual learning.
Squeakers and Mr. Gumdrop
A scene from the theatre for the very young production Squeakers and Mr. Gumdrop by Natalie Cutcher and Amanda Forstrom. I directed this scene for my class at Studio Acting Conservatory. This scene demonstrates my approach to virtual theatre and my directorial focus on business and prop work. Squeakers is played by Carolyn Hoehner and Mr. Gumdrop is played by Jack Schmitt.
The Princess and the Period
My final project for my undergraduate Anti-Multimedia performance class. I built the set and puppets from menstrual products and adapted the Princess and the Pea story to destigmatize menstruation and teach about menstrual health.
Exposition Féline
In this episode of Minou à l’exposition féline which I wrote for Concordia Language Villages’ virtual French immersion program, campers entered their own pets into a pet show, competing against the main character, Minou (played by a counselor). After this show, campers and counselors voted on a winner via Zoom poll. Shockingly, Minou won against all the rabbits, dogs, cats, stuffed animals, and pictures of turtles that competed.
Sleeping Beauty
In this project for my undergraduate Anti-Multimedia performance class, I used the Japanese street art of kamishibai, which I learned from my professor Natsu Onoda Power, to retell Sleeping Beauty with a focus on consent.
Les aventures de Caféteria
In this episode of Plaisirs d’amour, which I wrote and performed for Concordia Language Villages’ virtual French immersion program, I experimented with toy theatre and camera angles. In this story, a fairy named Caféteria searches for her magic power. She thinks it may be talking to animals, but realizes she is sorely mistaken when she is sprayed by a skunk! At the end of the episode, her teacher advises her to hurry up and find her power, and to bathe in tomato juice to get rid of the smell! Voice acting by Emmy Sol, Cliff Schwartz, and Michael Kretzschmar.

Plaisirs d'amour: Romeo and Juliet Spoof
A season of Plaisirs d'amour, a semi-improvised nightly comedy which I co-wrote and directed with my colleague Katie Hale. In this two-week adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, suitors (including the rapper Drake and a duck) compete for the heart of a princess whose affections lie with a prince from an opposing family.

Plaisirs d'amour: Joyeuse Noëlle
A season of Plaisirs d'amour, a semi-improvised nightly comedy which I co-wrote and directed with my colleague Rachel Nader. In this story about gender norms, the Tooth Fairy refuses to accept her son's aspirations to replace her, while Santa Claus insists that his daughter Noëlle is not qualified to run the family business. The two interview other candidates for their roles, including the Easter Bunny, Punxsutawney Phil, Cupid, and Anouk Hanouka.
